Discovering My Unique SHAPE

The Bible says that it is God who created us and that he has a unique plan and purpose for each on of our lives.

In Job 10:8, Job declares, “Your hands formed and shaped me…” (GN)

In Psalm 139:14-16, the author says to God, “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous… You were there while I was being formed… You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe.” (LB)

Believe it or not, God has made you just the way you are, with certain gifts, desires, abilities, a unique personality and unique experiences so that you can be all that he has created you to be, and do all that he has created you to do.

Understanding how you have been shaped in each of these areas is key to understanding who God has created you to be, and is foundational to ultimately fulfilling the purpose God has for your life.

As a tool to help in this process we use the acronym, S.H.A.P.E., and encourage each person to discover their unique SHAPE.

S. Spiritual Gifts – What am I gifted to do?
H. Heart – What do I love to do? What am I passionate about?
A. Abilities – What natural skills and abilities do I have?
P. Personality – Where does my personality best suit me to serve?
E. Experiences – How do the unique experiences I’ve had prepare me to fulfill the purpose God has for me?
